Permission was given for Admiral's Secret (GB) to be ponied early to post and Locker Room Talk (IRE) to go early to post.

An enquiry was held to consider whether the winner, Locker Room Talk (IRE), had acquired an advantage by being allowed an easy lead by the other runners.

Alan Johns, the rider of Admiral's Secret (GB), placed second, and Richard Johnson, the rider of At Its Own Expense (IRE), placed third, were interviewed.

Johns explained that initially he had been keen to get Admiral's Secret (GB) to jump off amongst runners as the gelding had been reluctant to race in the past and once the start had been effected he was happy with his position, adding that Admiral's Secret (GB) had been going as quick as possible throughout the race.

Johnson explained that his instructions had been to race prominently but once Locker Room Talk (IRE) had taken the lead shortly after the start he was happy with his position as he felt the gelding may be racing too freely in its hood.

Both riders stated that they felt Locker Room Talk (IRE) would be unable to keep up the gallop, adding that in their opinion they were not making ground on the winner on the run to the line and that the gelding was idling in front after jumping the final fence.

Having heard their evidence, the Stewards noted their explanations.

Following the race, Sam Twiston-Davies reported that Katpoli (FR), which started favourite and finished seventh, jumped left-handed throughout, Robbie Power reported that Bramble Brook (GB) was badly hampered by the fall of Railroad Junkie (IRE) at the ninth fence and he therefore pulled the gelding up and James Best reported that Spring Wolf (GB) made a bad mistake at the third-last fence and he subsequently pulled the gelding up approaching the second-last fence.

The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Admiral's Secret (GB), placed second, during routine testing shortly after the race, revealed the gelding lost its right fore shoe.
