B. Hayes, rider of All About Alfie trained by T. Donohue, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount did not jump well. The Stewards enquired into the apparent improvement in form of Fighting Days, trained by F. Flood, placed first compared with its recent form. Evidence was heard from the trainer's representative, Francis Flood who stated that the horse disappointed on his last start on very heavy going. He also added that the horse scoped badly post race when examined by the racecourse veterinary surgeon. He concluded by saying that he did not make this report known to the Turf Club because he assumed that the racecourse veterinary surgeon would relay the findings to the Turf Club veterinary officer. The horse was subsequently treated with medication. Evidence was also heard from Mr. Noel O'Brien, Senior turf club handicapper. Having considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that the trainer was in breach of Rule 213, having failed to report something that may have affected the horse's performance and referred the matter to the referrals committee for further investigation. Mr.C.O'Reilly absented himself from this enquiry.
