7 Ran
Wheresben was the well backed winner here and ran out an easy winner. Rated 135 over hurdles, the gelding had failed to win in six previous chase outings but produced his best form here to defeat the patiently ridden pair Freds Benefit and Kilcrea Castle.
Wheresben's trainer Seamus Fahey later reported "he jumped better today but seems to come to hand this time of year. He is rated too high over hurdles and I have no plans from here." How the handicapper reacts to this performance will be interesting but he is unlikely to take too kindly to the winner.
Runner-up Freds Benefit raced from off the pace but looked to be travelling well before the straight. However, he found little when asked for an effort while a similar comment applies to Kilcrea Castle, who disappointed.
Drunken Disorderly raced prominently on the outer before blundering his rider out of the saddle when jumping to the right six out while Marmalade Sky was out of his depth but ran ok.
Non-Runners were Four Chimney (stiff and sore), Battle Axe (scoped wrong) and the withdrawn Magnesium (soft ground).
