Permission was given for Pagan (IRE) to wear a red hood to the start; for Lost My Sock (IRE) to go early to post and for Desert Gulf (GB) to go early to post wearing a red hood.

Pagan (IRE), trained by William Haggas, entered the Parade Ring after the signal to mount had been given.

Being satisfied that it was due to Haggas’ representative having difficulty fitting the tongue strap, no further action was taken.

On the run to the line, First Edition (IRE), unplaced, raced in restricted room which prevented Hector Crouch from being able to ride out fully when EY UP ITS MAGGIE, unplaced, lugged slightly left-handed into its path, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.

The performance of Pagan (IRE), which started favourite and finished unplaced, was considered.

Tom Marquand reported that the gelding was slowly away and William Haggas’ representative could offer no further explanation for Pagan (IRE)’s performance.

The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Paul Hanagan, the rider of Internationaldream (IRE), placed third, was suspended for 2 days for using his whip above the permitted level from 1½ furlongs out.

Following the race, Paul Hanagan reported that Internationaldream (IRE) hung right.
