Prior to this race, a query was raised to consider why Tom Lacey was running Ten Lengths Tom (IRE) here at Uttoxeter on ground described as Soft, Heavy in places, having declared the gelding a non-runner at Warwick on 22 November 2023, on ground with the same official description.
The trainer stated that in his opinion, he felt that the track at Uttoxeter would ride softer than Warwick, and with the gelding preferring testing conditions he was happy for him to take his chance at Uttoxeter.
