An enquiry was held into the performance of For Pleasure (IRE), ridden by Harry Bannister.
The gelding was running very free when leading in the early stages before seeming to hang badly left-handed on the final bend and into the home straight, finishing fourth of five, beaten by 31 ¾ lengths.
The rider was interviewed, and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of For Pleasure (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider explained that the gelding is normally a free-running horse, but on this occasion was running very free in the early stages when in the lead with no company.
He added that For Pleasure (IRE) began to increasingly hang more left-handed as the race progressed, despite his best efforts, leading to the gelding becoming unsteerable on the final bend and in the home straight, a fact which he had reported to scales.
The Stewards noted his explanation.
Following the race, Joshua Moore reported that Gorham's Cave (GB), placed fifth, ran too free.
