An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Our Flying Angel (IRE), ridden by Ben Jones, and trained by Peter Bowen, which was tailed off when appearing to have no more to give, before finishing last of seven, beaten by 174 lengths.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the mare failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that his instructions were to sit behind the leaders and obtain cover as Our Flying Angel (IRE) had raced keenly on her previous run.
He continued that his instructions were then to ride his own race once the filly had settled.
He added that the mare propped going into several hurdles jumping slowly and losing ground as a result throughout the race.
He further added that in his opinion despite being tailed off, Our Flying Angel was not over tired and had popped the last hurdle nicely and had completed the race without showing any signs of fatigue.
His explanation was noted.
