The performance of Pileon (IRE), which started favourite and finished last of the four runners, beaten by 67½ lengths, was considered.
The representative of Philip Hobbs could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance other than Richard Johnson reporting that Pileon (IRE) slipped on the approach to the first two fences and lost its confidence thereafter.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Pileon (IRE), during routine testing shortly after the race, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
