C. O'Donoghue, rider of Yulong Xiongfeng trained by David Marnane, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount was slowly away, never travelled and did not act on the ground. The Stewards interviewed Mr. P. F. Graffin, Turf Club Clerk of the Course and Mr. Ray Drelling, Course Foreman, in relation to the watering of the track leading up to the meeting. Evidence was heard from Mr. Graffin who stated that he found the track to be in a safe condition when walking the today but felt that there was a small area after turning into the straight that was softer than ideal. He added that this is an area where water tends to drain to, from the top of the course. Evidence was also heard from Mr. Dreeling who outlined the watering procedure from declaration time to racing. He stated that in the interest of safety and working to avoid horses slipping up while entering the straight, extra water was applied to this area. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied with the explanations offered, bearing in mind that that watering is not an exact science and that every effort was made by the track to provide a safe racing surface.
