An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Potters Away, ridden by Henry Brooke and trained by Oliver Greenall, which was held up in the early stages before appearing to be tenderly ridden in the final 3 furlongs to finish sixth of ten, beaten 18 lengths.

The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race; and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the mare failed to reveal any abnormalities.

The rider stated that Potters Away ran too free for three quarters of the race, a fact that he reported at Scales, and he squeezed the mare along approximately 3 furlongs out where he felt Potters Away begin to empty on the approach to the second last hurdle, at which the mare didn’t jump fluently.

He added he therefore felt it prudent to hold Potters Away together on the approach to the final flight and that the mare’s run had flattened out on the run to the line.

His explanation was noted.

Following the race, Nico de Boinville reported that Lantiern, placed fourth, ran too free.

The Veterinary Officer reported that the winner, Ruthless Article, lost its right hind shoe.
