The Stewards enquired into the loss of the lead cloth during this race which was carried by Hylo's Journey. Evidence was heard from Mr D.P. Maxwell, rider and Mrs D. Love representing Andrew McNamara, trainer. Mrs Love stated that the lead cloth had been retrieved from the racing surface and Mr Maxwell confirmed that he had lost the lead cloth during the race. Having considered all the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Mr D.P. Maxwell had failed to draw the correct weight in accordance with the provisions of Rule 231 (i) and consequently disqualified Hylo's Journey. The Stewards did not apportion any blame to any individual and took no further action.
