An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference shortly after jumping the final hurdle when Valtor (FR), placed fifth, ridden by James Bowen, interfered with Igor (GB), placed sixth, ridden by Mr Sam Waley-Cohen, which in turn interfered with Saint Xavier (FR), unplaced, ridden by Mr David Maxwell.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Valtor (FR)’s placing in that the interference appeared to cost Igor (GB) little momentum or ground and happened sufficiently far from the line to allow that gelding to pass Valtor (FR).
Bowen was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he had failed to correct his mount from drifting right-handed towards the rail, resulting in Waley- Cohen and Maxwell suffering interference.
Following the race, James Bowen reported that Valtor (FR), placed fifth, hung right-handed throughout and Harry Skelton reported that The Mulcair (IRE), which was pulled up, stopped quickly.
