An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race following interference on the run to the line involving the winner, Invincible Wish (IRE), ridden by William Kennedy, and Phoenix Dawn (GB), placed second, ridden by Cillin Leonard.
Being a 7lb claiming conditional, Leonard was accompanied by a trainer.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Invincible Wish (IRE)’s placing as Phoenix Dawn (GB) had come from behind and it was felt that the momentum lost by Phoenix Dawn (GB) having received a bump approaching the line, had cost the gelding more than the short head by which it was beaten, and in fact it had passed Invincible Wish (IRE) shortly after the line.
The interference was found to be accidental as Invincible Wish (IRE) had shifted quickly left-handed away from the whip.
The placings were revised as follows: Phoenix Dawn (GB), first; Invincible Wish (IRE), second.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Eclair Des Sablons (FR), placed third, was showing signs of post-race ataxia.
