Permission was given for Cool Legend (GB) to be mounted in the chute and the gelding also wore earplugs which were removed at the start.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final furlong involving the winner, Cool Legend (GB), ridden by Cieren Fallon and The Crafty Mole (GB), placed second, ridden by Daniel Tudhope.
The Stewards had considered that the interference had improved Cool Legend (GB)’s placing, as the ground and momentum lost by The Crafty Mole (GB) was greater than the official winning distance of a head at the line, after the gelding had received numerous bumps and was carried several horse widths across the track by Cool Legend (GB) to then stay on strongly to be beaten a diminishing head at the line.
The Stewards therefore revised the placings as follows: 1st- The Crafty Mole (GB); 2nd- Cool Legend (GB); 3rd- Gibside (GB); 4th- Cosmic Soul (IRE).
The interference was found to be accidental in that Cool Legend (GB) hung right-handed despite Fallon’s best efforts to correct the gelding.
Following the race, P J McDonald reported that King Of The Plains (IRE), placed fifth, hung right- handed throughout.
