- Stewards Report
Rowan Scott, the rider of Kodi Koh (IRE), drawn 13, was slow to remove the blindfold, resulting in the mare being slowly away.
Scott’s explanation that the blindfold became stuck on the bridle and took two attempts to remove was noted.
An enquiry was held to consider interference entering the first bend involving The British Lion (IRE), placed seventh, ridden by Daniel Muscutt, the winner, Szarratu (IRE), ridden by Alistair Rawlinson and Clarion Lady (GB), unplaced, ridden by Cieren Fallon.
The interference was found to be accidental as a free running The British Lion (IRE) had to be checked after it had improved up inside the heels of Szarratu (IRE) which shifted left-handed after being restrained off the heels of Clarion Lady (GB).
Approximately 1 furlong out, the winner, Szarratu (IRE), lugged right-handed at the same time as Red Skye Delight (IRE), placed second, edged left-handed, causing New Look (FR), placed third, to be briefly checked in its run, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of either Szarratu (IRE) or Red Skye Delight (IRE).
Approximately ½ a furlong out, The British Lion (IRE), placed seventh, lugged slightly right-handed, hampering Regulator (IRE), placed fourth, which was carried off its intended line and in turn inconvenienced a weakening Billyoakes (IRE), placed eighth, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of The British Lion (IRE).
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Regulator (IRE), ridden by Robert Havlin and trained by Alexandra Dunn, which was held up in rear throughout, after missing the break before staying on strongly under a hands and heels ride from 2 furlongs out to finish fourth, beaten by 4¾ lengths.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated his instructions were to drop Regulator (IRE) out early from his wide draw, get the gelding to relax and avoid allowing him to see too much daylight.
Havlin explained that after being slowly away by design and folding across behind runners early, in order to best comply with his instructions, Regulator (IRE) had then taken a fierce hold and was unsuited when the pace steadied appreciably going round the first bend.
He added that down the back straight several runners in front of him were climbing over the back of each other due to the continued slow pace and near the 4 furlong marker, he had committed to ride for luck and secure an economical trip through along the inside rail as opposed to making a long, wide run around the field when the pace would undoubtedly increase at some point.
Havlin further added that for some distance inside the 3 furlong marker he had to wait for Brother In Arms (IRE) to drop off in order to fully avail himself of clear running and shift off the back of Kodi Koh (IRE), which would enable him to follow Blue Whisper (GB) into the race, but by this time Regulator (IRE) was poorly positioned to mount its finishing challenge.
Havlin continued by saying that from this point Regulator (IRE) had stayed on particularly well, despite the race not being run to suit and having met interference inside the final furlong, to in his opinion obtain the best possible placing in the circumstances.
His explanation was noted.
Following the race, Daniel Muscutt reported that The British Lion (IRE), placed seventh, ran too freely and Ben Robinson reported that Billyoakes (IRE), placed eighth, ran too freely.
