Inside the final furlong, Paddy Brennan, the rider of Lady Jane P (IRE), placed third, struck Thanksforthehelp (FR), placed second, once across the nose with his whip but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was considered to be accidental.
Tom Scudamore, the rider of Thanksforthehelp (FR), which finished second of nine, beaten by 6½ lengths, was asked to explain his riding from the third-last hurdle where the gelding appeared to be considerately ridden in the home straight.
The Stewards interviewed Scudamore and viewed recordings of the race after which he explained his instructions were to hold up Thanksforthehelp (FR) and concentrate on getting the gelding settled as he is a big immature horse with limited experience.
He added that on the approach to the third last hurdle he was focused on getting the gelding balanced after which Thanksforthehelp (FR) jumped left-handed and continued to jump fractionally left-handed at the second-last and final hurdles before staying on one paced to the line.
His explanation was noted.
Following the race, the representative of Alan King reported that Peace River (GB), unplaced, was unsuited by the Soft ground on this occasion and would prefer a faster surface and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination revealed the gelding to be lame on its right-hind.
