FormscanBy Tom Weekes - Smart bumper performer THE YELLOW CLAY can make a winning debut over hurdles on suitably good-to-yielding ground. A Listed winner, he finished sixth and runner-up in Cheltenham and Punchestown Grade 1s respectively on most recent runs and while he now competes over a staying distance, possesses good ability. Stablemate and Punchestown festival winner Wingmen has also been declared. He too is capable and being an impressive winner of a useful point-to-point, has proven stamina but is seemingly second-string. My Lyka has flopped twice from his last three runs in big Flat prizes but did show form in September. Prior to those, he finished second on hurdles debut at Killarney and while suited by conditions, should struggle to win.

We thought he was going really well at home and had this race picked out for him after his last run at Clonmel. It's worked out really well. We wanted the rain. We just have three in at the moment and this is a special win. For a set-up like ours if you can have a winner at a summer festival like Galway or Listowel it's what you dream of. It's a massive day down here and it's great to be here, it's my first time here. We're three miles outside Newry, on the Co. Armagh side. We came down yesterday and are heading home tomorrow morning. It's great to get a winner by Vadamos as we've supported him. We sold a few foals by him. We breed a few but it's been hard in the past year or so trying to move stock on. Hopefully in a couple of years it will be back going strong again.

The Yellow Clay is a nice horse and we think a good bit of him. I loved the way he hit the line. He'll probably go for the listed bumper in Limerick next but is a horse for next year and is one to look forward to. he is only the second homebred runner that the Morans (Bective Stud owners) have had and he is the first winner. They had three homebred horses this year - one was no good, one okay and one nice.
