Review limerick 28th Jan
< Quiscover Fontaine took another step up the ladder with a well-crafted victory under Emmet Mullins in the Greenmount Racing Club Novice Hurdle.
The 5lb claimer rode a supremely confident race on the Willie Mullins-trained five-year-old, biding his time as Olympian Boy and Monty Blue enjoyed a substantial lead in the two-mile contest.
Quiscover Fontaine (1-2 favourite) closed up approaching the turn in and made smooth progress to jump the last level with Alice Bradys Call before being bustled along to win by a length and a quarter.
Emmet Mullins completed a double when Jimmy Mangan's Whinstone Boy (4-1) got up close home to deny Dashing George by a neck in the Annual Members Raceday Handicap Hurdle.
There was a dramatic finish to the 2009 Annual Members Handicap Hurdle and Yeoman (9-1) could certainly not be called the likely winner as he jumped the second-last under pressure in sixth spot.
But leader Blackwater Pete fell and Zanwood who was left clear, all but stopped on the run-in as Tom Ryan got Yeoman up in the dying strides to win by half a length and end his trainer-brother David's drought.< Celtic Strand s form was some way ahead of his rivals in the www.limerickraces.ie Maiden Hurdle and Liam McAteer's charge won without much fuss.< Ach Aye Surely was threatening to make a race of it before a mistake at the second-last and Andrew Lynch eased the 2-7 favourite clear to win by eight lengths.< Caola Mann was given a positive ride by Alain Cawley in the testing conditions and he was rewarded with victory in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Maiden Hurdle over two miles and three furlongs.
The 16-1 shot, always in the first two, led turning into the straight and galloped on strongly to beat Kind Oscar by a length.
David Casey arrived late on the scene to take the Munster By The Grace Of God Beginners Chase on Taipan's Way (6-1) for the Willie Mullins yard.
