Review killarney 17th Jul
< Drive Time limbered up for the Guinness Galway Hurdle with an easy victory in the Killarney Veterinary Clinic (QR) Race on the second day of the July Festival.
The Graham Wylie-owned seven-year-old, who won over course and distance when trained by Jim Bolger earlier in his career, was making it two from two since joining Willie Mullins, having won over hurdles at Punchestown.
Patrick Mullins never had a moment's worry on the 1-4 favourite, who eased up to Kalellshan going to the final furlong and needed little urging to stride clear before easing down to win by a length and three-quarters.
Wayne Lordan delivered a power-packed ride to get Croi An Or home in a tight finish to the Easy Clean Ltd Race on his drop back down from Listed level.
Tommy Stack's colt (9-2) tackled long-time leader Learn in the final furlong and in a fierce duel it was only in the last few strides that Lordan got him up to beat the odds-on favourite by a head for a second narrow victory at the track.
Joseph O'Brien was out of luck on that occasion but he has been in tremendous form and added another winner to his score when his father Aidan's three-year-old Wonderful took the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden.
The 13-8 chance looked to have something on her plate when favourite Mona Brown loomed up, but she stuck to her task and regained the advantage close home to score by three-quarters of a length.
Davy Russell, who notched a double on the opening day, made it three on his only ride when Henry de Bromhead's Catcherinscratcher (7-2) led three out and held Definite Class by a length and three-quarters in the Christy McSweeney Memorial Novice Chase.
The trainer doubled up in the Mike Cronin Readymix Ltd Handicap Chase with Fourth Class (7-2), who had the race in the bag some way out in the hands of Ruby Walsh and cleared away to score by 11 lengths.
