Review gowran park 6th May
< Tannery stepped up on her previous form to spring a surprise of sorts in the feature Irish Stallion Farms EBF Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes at Gowran Park.
Odds-on favourite for the race was the winner's David Wachman-trained stable companion Chrysanthemum who was on a hat-trick and was taken on for the lead by her main market rival Zaminast
Niall McCullagh took closer order approaching the straight on Tannery and the 12-1 shot was driven to lead a furlong out before holding the staying-on Soon by a length and a half.
Wachman repeated the trick in the Follow Gowran Park On Facebook Handicap when he saddled disappointing favourite Queenscliff but won the race with Oh Happy Days (14-1), who got up in the shadow of the post under Billy Lee to score by half a length.< Wonderful was sent off at odds-on for the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden minutes after her stablemate Homecoming Queen landed the 1000 Guineas, but there was to be no extra celebration.
The favourite tried to lead all the way, but Dermot Weld's newcomer Caponata (5-1) brushed her aside in the final quarter-mile and stretched clear under Pat Smullen to beat Something Graceful by five and a half lengths.
Wayne Lordan brought Tommy Stack's 7-1 shot Great Huzzar with a strong run down the outside in the straight to win the Breeze Up At Gowran Park May 24th Handicap by three-quarters of a length.
The meeting began with two jumps race and the first of them, the gowranpark.ie Maiden Hurdle, went to Forty Foot Tom (11-4), who asserted on the run to the last under Adrian Heskin to land his first victory since his bumper debut two and a half years ago.
Declan Lavery kept Melanjo (20-1) going long enough to hold Royal Sam by half a length in the concluding Kilkenny (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race.
