Review clonmel 21st May
Clonmel survived an early-morning inspection and Carolobrian landed a gamble in the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden.
Matthieu Palussiere's four-year-old did nothing on her debut, albeit behind Al Eile at Dundalk, but was backed in to 14-1 from 33-1 and went into the lead after travelling three furlongs here.
Davy Moran was always going best from that point and although she got tired in the final furlong, she was entitled to and still had three lengths to spare over Genesi at the line.
Dermot Weld's odds-on favourite Middle Persia finished out of the frame, but the master of Rosewell House struck back straight away with Vivien Lee (7-2) in the following Cahir Handicap.
Top-weight Wild Hawk appeared to have matters sewn up when kicking clear entering the straight, but he began to tread water in the final furlong. Vivien Lee and Asiya flew home, and the former just gained the spoils by a short head.< American Princess defied a 4lb rise for her last-start course and distance victory in the Knockmealdown Handicap.
Michael Grassick's 11-2 market leader made smooth headway from the rear to take up the running a furlong and a half from the finish but she ultimately had to pull out all the stops, as Binocular stayed on to get within three-quarters of a length of the winner.
Over the sticks, Glenstal Abbey proved a class apart from his rivals in the Summer BBQ Evening June 12th Maiden Hurdle.
Returning from a spell on the sidelines, the even-money favourite travelled with zest for David Casey, who didn't have to resort to the whip in order to inflict a five-and-a-half-length defeat on Seenya
The Cashel Maiden Hurdle went the way of Liam Burke's Dolly Hall (11-2), while Cloverhill Lad (6-1) proved too strong for 5-1 favourite Saddler's Native in the Powerstown Handicap Hurdle.
