Zawraq too strong for Newton

Sir Isaac Newton was the talking horse in the colts maiden at Leopardstown but he had to play second fiddle to another debutant in Zawraq
Pat Smullen made the running on Zawraq in the seven-furong contest and the Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned colt was tackled going to the furlong pole by the 8/11 favourite from Ballydoyle.
Dermot Weld's charge was headed by the hotpot just inside the final furlong but showed a nice attitude to get back in front in the closing stages for a half-length success at odds of 3/1.
“He's potentially a high class colt. We'll look to a Guineas trial next spring and let him tell us what way to go with him,” said Weld afterwards.
“He was a big backward horse and took time. He had a head cold about a month ago and that held me up. That's why he's just appearing now.
“He'll learn a lot from the race and hopefully there is plenty of improvement. You'll find the first two are very nice colts.”
Boylesports make the winner a 20/1 shot for the Guineas while Sir Isaac Newton remains 20/1 for the Derby.
