- Wyck wins well for Flood
Wyck wins well for Flood
The market spoke for Van Wyck in the Thorney Bridge Handicap Hurdle at Clonmel and he was produced with a well-timed run by Brian O'Connell to do the business. Flight Control took up the running turning for home in the two-miler but he had just been headed by Mind The Steps going to the last when crashing out.
The lead of Mind The Steps was short-lived as Van Wyck, who had challenged on the outer at the last, came to take it up.
Francis Flood's charge soon had matters in hand and won a touch snugly at the line, posting a length verdict.
The winner was available at 7/2 in the morning but was eventually sent off 5/2 favourite on course.
"He's been trying a good while and with his bumper form you'd think he would have won one by now," said Fran Flood junior.
"He's always been arriving there smoothly and not getting home. Maybe today he got a breather at the bottom of the hill.
"Hopefully he'll learn to relax and get home better in his races."
The winning owners Thomas and John Nestor hail from Galway.
