Sea Wolf came with a well-timed charge inside the final furlong to claim the Equisoft 25th Anniversary Handicap at the Curragh. Have A Nice Day made his bid for home over two furlongs out in the seven-furlong contest when taking over from front-runner An Saighdiur
Colin Keane got a good tune from 11/4 favourite, however, and he stayed on to lead inside the final furlong before powering clear in the closing stages for a three length victory. Club Wexford kept on for second.
The winner was narrowly denied on his most recent start at Ayr in late April and was having his first start for trainer Ger Lyons today.
"David (Spratt, owner) is very good at finding these horses, and I don't know how he does it. Nearly every horse he's bought has worked out,” said Lyons.
"He's a very straight forward horse, a kids ride at home. Today was really a fact finding mission. He seemed to be going nowhere two (furlongs) down but he came home really well.
"Colin said a mile would be no problem but I don't know. Looking at his form beforehand it said seven furlongs to me. But we'll learn as we go."
