J.P. McManus' Grade 1 winning hurdler Jer’s Girl made a winning return to action at Roscommon today when landing the Budweiser Maiden for trainer Gavin Cromwell and jockey Seamus Heffernan.
The daughter of Jeremy was returning from a six months layoff, having fallen on her previous start in the Mares Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March, and today bounced back to her best with a comprehensive five and a half lengths win over Solo Saxophone
Cromwell later stated “that's great and it's nice to have her back. She loved that ground and I had her fairly right for today.
“This was a nice place to start as she was still a maiden (on the flat) and she showed her class.”
Regarding future plans, he added “there is such a bunch of good mares at the minute it's going to be so tough and I'd say the Lismullen Hurdle (Navan in November) is an obvious option but after that I'm not sure. I'll have to talk to the lads (owner McManus).”
