In-form Simon Torrens is creating a sizeable list of contacts and today partnered his first winner for trainer Ross O'Sullivan at Tipperary as he steered Bythesametoken to win the Ballykisteen Handicap Hurdle.
Bythesametoken's hard fought win was 5lbs claimer Torrens' 33rd career win and remarkably has now ridden winners for 22 different trainers.
Afterwards O'Sullivan stated “Simon rode this horse the last day and gave him a lovely ride and the lads were delighted to keep him on him with the 5lbs claim. That's his first winner for me.”
He added “he had winter form on soft to heavy so when the rain came it didn't really affect us, but might have affected some of the summer horses.
“His last run left him spot on; he ran well in 0-130 hurdle then and he was dropping back to a 0-116 today but the topweight was rated just 110 so it was a drop in class.
“He is a fine big horse and will jump a fence as well. It is great for the Monroes (owners) as well as they are great supporters of the yard.”
