Whatsabillion repeats Martinstown success
Whatsabillion made a winning return to fences when claiming the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Chase at Clonmel for the second year running.
John Murphy 's charge had been successful over timber at Thurles last month and was racing off a 9lb lower mark over the larger obstacles today.
David Splaine sent his mount into the lead before the second last but was soon challenged by Whosaidso
Both got it wrong at the penultimate fence but Whatsabillion was less disadvantaged and soon opened up a healthy gap.
He stayed on well in the closing stages to post a ten-length victory over his rival.
"He was in off a light weight and got a great ride from a positive rider," said Murphy.
"He's in again over hurdles at Limerick on Sunday but I don't think he'll run."
Splaine has only recently returned from injury and had a plate removed from his leg.
