Trainer Henry De Bromhead completed an across-the-card treble at Cork today when his Days Hotel provided jockey Philip Enright with a career highlight when winning the featured Grade 2 Hilly Way Chase.
Days Hotel, completing an abridged hat-trick of wins having been off the track for 385 days since his latest start, raced behind the leaders and shoed a distinct tendency to lean towards the right throughout the two miles trip. Blazing Tempo moved to the front entering the straight before the winner picked up the lead at the second last. Days Ahead, while continuing to lead right, went clear from the final fence to record a six lengths win over Realt Dubh with Blazing Tempo back in third.
De Bromhead, who had earlier seen his Starkie win at the venue and Too Scoups win at Punchestown, was at the Co Kildare track but Enright did later report “that is my biggest winner - I've won the Thyestes Chase twice and also won the Pierce Hurdle but I'd never won a race bigger than a Grade 3 before today.
“Days Hotel was learning to his right but jumped from fence to fence. He was going as fast as he wanted to be early on but loves heavy ground and should improve from today's race.”
Stan James bookmakers later cut Days Hotel to 14/1 (from 20s) for the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham.
