J.P. McManus' Ilikethewayurthinkin was the well-backed winner (morning 5/1, returned 9/4) of the P&D Lydon Beginners Chase at Ballinrobe today, continuing the good recent run of both trainer Gavin Cromwell and jockey Luke Dempsey.
The son of Yeats, a dual Galway festival winner in 2019, was having his first start since the Punchestown festival in May and while he erred at the final fence, rallied on the run-in to edge past 5/4 favourite Russian Diamond and score by two and a half lengths.
It was jockey Dempsey's 12th winner of the new season and a seventh success in three weeks for Cromwell, who reported “I suppose he was entitled to win off that mark but yet did well to win after making a mistake at the last.
“He got the trip well. I’m not sure where we will go from here but it’s nice to win with him.”
