Toofareastiswest lunged late to land the spoils in the Locke Burger Maiden Hurdle at Limerick.
The Eoghan O'Grady-trained gelding had pulled up on his last outing on soft ground at Thurles but was well supported today from 16/1 into 9/2.
Shane Fitzgerald settled his mount mid-division in the two-mile-five contest before asking him to take closer order after the third last flight.
He was rowing along in fourth turning for home but the Shirocco gelding stayed on into second over the last and chased down Coconut Tudor on the run-in to secure a neck success.
"He had a couple of good runs and was second at Clonmel last year. Better ground seemed to suit him better than when pulling up the last day,” said O'Grady.
"We'll keep him going for the summer and he'll go over fences sooner rather than later.
"A group of lads from East Kerry football own him."
