Binge Worthy (5/1) achieved something his illustrious relative Minella Indo failed to do in winning a Limerick Christmas maiden hurdle today, landing the Keith Lynch Memorial race for trainer Gordon Elliott and jockey Keith Donoghue.
From Dick Lalor's 'Carrigeen' pedigree, Binge Worthy is out of a half-sister to Minella Indo and, last April, followed the 2021 Gold Cup winner in also winning a Dromahane five-year-old maiden point-to-point.
Binge Worthy was subsequently sold by Denis Murphy to current owners Denis Gallagher Racing for £160,000 and today, debuting over hurdles, raced with the leaders, led before the second-last and finished well in testing conditions to beat Secrecies Of Stone
Elliott's assistant Ian Amond later reported “he won well and Keith kept it simple on him. When he was in front he had a good look at the last two hurdles but won well enough and Keith said he'll be a grand horse going forwards.
“He is a big horse and will be grand further down the line.”
Minella Indo began his own hurdling career with a less-promising defeat, when finishing third, in a Limerick maiden hurdle on December 29 2018.
