Webbow makes successful raid
UK trainers have enjoyed considerable success at Dundalk this season, and North Yorkshire-based Brian Ellison is the latest to get on the scoresheet at the polytrack after Webbow took the opening Crowe Plaza Race & Stay Package Race.
Fran Berry partnered his 88th winner of the campaign as the eight-year-old gelding headed the front-running Anam Chara just over a furlong out to beat that rival by two and a half lengths.
Louise Revell, representing owners Wentdale Limited, said afterwards: “He's a bit of an old monkey and, while he's run well a number of times this year, hasn't won for some time. It's great that he's got his head in front.”
She added, “He loves top of the ground, so we thought that this track would suit him. I told the jockey not to hit the front too soon, and it's all worked out well.”
