Waydownsouth was the highest-rated horse in Sligo’s claimer and duly recorded a victory for Pat Flynn and Danny Grant.
He went off at 4/7f and punters must have had a few concerns when they saw Danny Grant pushing him along with a furlong and a half of this mile and two race to go.
However, Grant had a willing partner and Waydownsouth responded to challenge for the lead at the furlong marker before forging on to hit the line two and a half lengths up on Burnt Sienna (5/1). She stayed on stoutly down the outside for jockey Seamie Heffernan. The Fox Tully was a length further back in third at 9/2.
Jockey Danny Grant said: “He’s genuine but he has his problems, but Pat’s looking after him and placing him well. The only thing I was afraid of was the trip so I rode him handy.” Positive Vibes was withdrawn for running free before the start. His price was 7/2 which led to a new market being formed. There was a Rule 4 deduction of 20 cent in the euro to board prices taken before the new market.
Waydownsouth’s mark of 82 was 6lbs superior to the next highest rated The Fox Tully.
