Brendan Brackan looked to have the field in trouble in the featured Group 3 Ballycorus Stakes at Leopardstown, but Wannabe Better swooped with a withering late challenge to seal the victory.
Brendan Brackan led round homeward bend had his six rivals off the bridle. However, he was collared at the furlong pole by Eastern Rules who in turn was worn down by Wannabe Better.
Jockey Wayne Lordan reported: “They went very quick and she was a bit crowded down the inner and wasn’t enjoying it. When I switched her out I knew she had plenty left.
“She likes going around the bend. The last day at Tipperary it didn’t happen for her on the ground and I wasn’t hard on her. The ground was perfect today.”
There was support for the winner on course from 14/1 to 10/1. Eastern Rules who was beaten half a length by the winner was returned at 7/1 while Brendan Brackan, the 6/4 favourite, was a head away in third.
