Wachman doubles-up with 1,2
David Wachman's string are in tremendous form and he saddled a one two in the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Fillies Maiden with Sapphire Pendant beating Azores This added to his earlier gains with Requinto at Cork.
However those that followed the money for Azores (10s into 7/2) were left perplexed as Sapphire Pendant (put in at 10/1 in the morning papers) got up to deny the gamble by a neck under Seamie Heffernan, causing a 33/1 surprise.
Wachman said: "Seamus was happy with Sapphire Pendant. She is very-well bred, Aidan (O'Brien) trained the dam (Butterfly Blue). She'll make a very valuable broodmare if she can step-up to win at stakes level.
"Hopefully the second, Azores will pick-up her maiden in the near future."
