- Vodka a shot for O'Sullivan's training career
Vodka a shot for O'Sullivan's training career
Shotavodka had his principal market-rival removed from the early stages of the Tramore Centenary (Ladies) INH Flat Race with Fairy Court forced out with a slipped saddle but the favourite took his opportunity in great style when slamming his rivals under Nina Carberry to credit trainer Sinead O'Sullivan with her first winner under rules with just her second runner.
The winner, a flashy chestnut son of Alderbrook, led over six furlongs out and it was apparent from over three furlongs out that he wasn't going to be caught. The once previously raced five-year-old (4th at Limerick in May for Paul Moloney) kept up the gallop to beat Garden Valley by nineteen lengths.
O'Sullivan, forever associated with the likes of Newmill and Preists Leap as she led up the pair of some of their big days, said: "He's a nice little horse that works well at home. I only have him for a couple of months and he'll go for a winners bumper if he's not sold in the meantime.
"I only got my licence in April and I've had a couple of point-to-point winners. I'm based in Clonakilty and I took over Thomas O'Leary's yard. I've ten in, mainly pointers, though I have three for the track."
