Velvet causes upset in opening juvenile maiden
Velvet Flicker showed the benefit of her debut here earlier in the month when finishing strongly under Declan McDonogh to overhaul hot-favourite Clashnacree in the opening six furlongs juvenile auction maiden.
The Kevin Prendergast-trained filly (12/1) stretched out really well when asked for her effort in the straight, heading the 4/7 favourite in the final 100 yards and eventually going on to score by a length. Ballydoyle newcomer Reggae Dancer could find no extra in the final furlong to finish fourth.
'You really need a run for six furlongs around here. She was a bit stupid on her first run and might have finished second instead of fifth but has got very professional since that. Her dam (Velvet Appeal) was fourth in the Moyglare,' said Prendergast.
