Uncle Junior finally makes it
His task was eased as early as the first fence when the well-supported favourite El Fontan (9/2 this morning into 2/1) departed but ultimately Uncle Junior pulled out plenty when it mattered most to land the Thomastown Beginners Chase at Gowran under Paul Townend for Willie Mullins. The win was bringing up a double for that pair as they'd landed the opener with Bagber
'Shark' Hanlon's Baizically appeared to have a big chance when on terms with Uncle Junior at the second last but by the time they got to the final fence it was apparent that Mullins and Townend were going to have another winner. At the line Uncle Junior had eight lengths in hand over Baizically.
Mullins said: "That was a long time coming. He jumped well today and I think he'll improve as the ground gets drier. He'll probably go for a winners of one now.
"The other fellow, Definite Edge lost his action and he's pulled muscles."
The Emmet Mullins ridden Definite Edge was still right in contention approaching the straight before pulling up quickly before the third last fence.
