Two Stars overcame a layoff of nearly seven months when justifying good support in the five-furlong Guinness Handicap at the Curragh this afternoon.
The Fozzy Stack-trained gelding, successful at Cork last year but absent since filling the runner-up spot over this course and distance back in April, was available at 7/1 overnight but was well supported to be sent off the 4/1 favourite.
The son of Starspangledbanner travelled well to lead at the furlong pole and quickened up nicely under Joey Sheridan to beat Never Shout Never by a length and a half. Laugh A Minute was a further neck away in third.
Stack said, “He got a bit of a setback after he ran here the last day so that’s why he was missing for a while.
“He won well and I always felt he was a little bit better than his mark.
“He does need a bit of a cut in the ground, and he might be one for some of those better handicaps next year hopefully.”
