Turban makes impression on debut
Turban made a winning Irish debut when claiming the Cahir Maiden Hurdle in good style under Ruby Walsh. Trifolium proved a warm order (6/4 into 5/4f) and hit the front turning for home in the two-mile contest.
He was tracked through by Turban, however, and the French import was ridden to lead at the final flight.
The 9/2 shot kept on well in the closing stages to record a cosy length-and-a-half success. Folsom Blue in the second Gigginstown colours, ran on well close home to grab second spot.
The winner had been third on his sole start on the Flat in France.
It was a double on the card for Willie Mullins, following the first race victory of Popcorn and he said afterwards:-
"I was pleasantly surprised as I thought he would want that run. Ruby said he'll improve an awful lot from that.
"He nearly fell early on (mistake second hurdle) and idled when he hit the front. He'll go for a novice hurdle next.
"His owner Edward O'Connell sponsors the Hilly Way Chase in Cork so it's good that he's getting something back from the game."
