Betsey Trotter recorded her second success of the season, as she held off the well-supported 11/8 favourite (from 15/8) T For Tango in the Fitzers Catering Handicap.
Successful at Navan in May, the Dermot Weld trained Camacho filly was second on her two starts since.
Sent off at 5/2 this evening, she broke smartly to lead, but was soon headed and raced in second under Declan McDonogh.
She was pushed along and regained the lead a furlong and a half from home, keeping on well under pressure from there to hold off the challenge of T For Tango by a head.
The front pair went three and a half lengths clear of Gottardo in third.
Weld said: "She is very tough and brave, and a model of consistency. It was a good tactical ride by Declan. He got a lead, took his time and got balanced.
"She possibly wanted to win a bit more than the second horse."
STEWARDS REPORT
The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving Betsey Trotter, ridden by D.P. McDonogh, placed first and T For Tango, ridden by W.J. Lee, placed second, where it appeared interference may have occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards made no alteration to the Judge's placings and took no further action.
