- Tough gains compensation
Tough gains compensation
Tough As Nails made no mistake this time as he gained compensation for an opening day disqualification with a cruise at Tipperary this afternoon.
Michael Mulvany 's charge had been thrown out after taking the first two-year-old race of the season at the Curragh having veered right in the closing stages.
The 6/4 favourite was straight as a die under Gary Carroll today, however, as he raced at the head of affairs.
The Dark Angel colt kicked a few lengths clear at the two furlong pole and stormed home in the closing stages to record an impressive seven-length victory over Boris Grigoriev
"I thought that he won at the Curragh on merit but he made up for it today," said Mulvany.
"I think he's a Group horse and he works very well a home. His dam won the (Listed) Marble Hill Stakes and he'll probably run there next (Curragh May 21st)."
The winner is proving a bargain buy for connections having cost only €3,000 as a yearling at Tattersalls last September.
