Tough Del Conde lands handicap chase
Mirador Del Conde showed a good attitude to prevail by the minimum margin under Philip Enright in the Renvyle House Hotel Handicap Steeplechase at Galway.
In the words of his trainer Robert Tyner, the Flemensfirth gelding "got in a bit close to two out" and then suffered the inconvenience of being closed off going for a gap between horses inside the final furlong. However the six-year-old overcame these setbacks to get up on the line to short head Peak Raider in this two and a half miler.
Tyner said: "His owner Carole Adams owns the Courtmacsherry Hotel in West Cork and they are delighted as it took this fellow ages to even win a point-to-point which he did in Dungourney. He is improving away there the whole time.
"He'll probably step-up in trip now to two and a half miles and he'll have three or four weeks off now after facing that hill. He battled well there and was tough."
