Toufan Express returned to form when scooping the featured Low Low Handicap for Ado McGuinness and Fran Berry at odds of 9/1. Ask Jack (3/1 favourite) made a valiant bid to follow up his victory in the valuable Topaz Mile here on Tuesday but a 5lb penalty for that win proved just too much.
Berry's mount headed the favourite inside the final furlong, and kept on under pressure to score by half a length. Douze Points trained like Ask Jack by Joe Murphy, finished best of all just a short-head further back in third.
“I was afraid the ground would be a bit lively for him. Fran said he was not liking it early on but as he started going past horses he enjoyed it,” said McGuinness.
He added: “He won a premier handicap at the Curragh last year, and I felt he was capable of winning another big pot. He's in again at Leopardstown next Thursday, so we'll see how he comes out of this.”
The Central Pub is the place to be in Balbriggan tonight as the winning “Our Lads Syndicate” hail from the north Co. Dublin hostelry.
