Tofino Bay under Davy Russell, made a winning chase debut when justifying 2/1 favouritism in the Kells Beginners Steeplechase at Navan today, completing a double for trainer Dessie Hughes.
Tofino Bay's jumping was generally good for a debutant and while He's Our Man looked a real threat from two out, Tofino Bay found more reserves on the run-in for a half length win.
Hughes, who took the opening maiden hurdle with Captain Arceus stated “Tofino Bay was good for his first run over fences and has a little bit of class. On his hurdle form he should be good over three miles and his jumping was very accurate. We'll find a novice for him over a trip now.”
