Thunder storms home to give Russell treble
Sea Of Thunder started to fulfill some of his potential when running out an easy winner of the Cashel Maiden Hurdle at Thurles.
The Gigginstown gelding (even-money favourite) was a warm order for the two-mile event and duly landed the spoils.
Davy Russell, completing a treble on the card, always had his mount on the pace and he hit the front going to the second last.
The Charles Byrnes-trained Old Vic gelding galloped on strongly to settle matters before the final flight. Back In A Tic chased in vain, going under by two-and-a-half lengths.
The winner had proved slightly disappointing on his early starts for the yard but shaped with promise on his return to action at Tipperary earlier this month.
"He was entitled to win that as he's been knocking on the door," said Byrnes.
"He did it well and we'll try and find a winners of one for him - he'll stay hurdling.
"He has been a bit disappointing as he won two point-to-points for Pat Doyle before he came to me. He seemed to move a bit better today."
