Protagonist recorded a third career win at Fairyhouse today as the Jessica Harrington trained, Scott McCullagh-partnered son of Wootton Bassett landed the Watch 'Thom's Tips' Rated Race.

Formerly with UK trainer Jamie Osbourne, Protagonist won on his furst two starts for Harrington in 2020 and today the four year old out-battled his year-younger rival Bear Story to score by a half-length.

Jockey McCullagh later said “they went a nice even gallop and he travelled away lovely, The step back up in trip brought about a bit of improvement in him. He’s come on from his last run, his home work has been good and it’s nice to get another one for Mrs Harrington.

“I’d say the ground is as quick as he’d like it. He’d definitely be better with a bit of ease in the ground.”
