Theyturnedmedown landed a nice pot for trainer Jimmy Coogan in the five furlong handicap at Navan.
The 20,000 euro race saw Theyturnedmedown always in the front rank. When Leigh Roche asked for more over a furlong out he knuckled down and kept on well to win by half a length at 10/1.
Top-weight Six Of Hearts (14/1), who was seventh a furlong from home, ran on nicely for second under Fran Berry. Scatty Cat at 12/1 came in third a further three parts of a length back.
Jimmy Coogan’s brother Benji was representing him and said: “Jimmy couldn’t make it as he has a bad back. That horse put in a good performance last week but sulked as he raced on his own up the far side [last of 10 to Allegra Tak at Tipperary on May 2].
“He’ll go to the Curragh either next Sunday or the Sunday after. It’ll be a six furlong race which is a better trip for him.
“He won over seven furlongs at Roscommon, but we always thought he had the pace for five furlongs.”
Allegra Tak, who went up 12lbs for winning at Tipperary, came in ninth of the 10 runners. Arbitrageur was well-backed on course from 4/1 to 9/4 favourite, however, he finished seventh. Faleena was popular from 9s this morning to 7/2 on the off, but she came in fifth.
The winner paid 24/1 on the Tote.
