Mick Mulvany is on course to register a yearly career-high number of winners as the trainer sent out his 15th winner of 2019 with The King Of Kells under jockey Gary Carroll, winning the Christmas Party Nights Dundalk Nursery at Dundalk today.
Homebred and by Mulvany's stallion Tough As Nails, The King Of Kells' third nursery win today leaves Mulvany just one winner short of his previous yearly best of 16 winners in 2018.
Following the race, he stated “we haven’t run many by Tough As Nails on this surface but we have a fast enough surface at home and he was working well on it. He seems to be getting better and better, and for the last month he’s getting stronger.
“He’s going to go on his holidays as he’s after having a hard year. I know he’s still improving but he’ll have to as the handicapper may not be too easy on him after winning three nurseries.
“I have no doubt that he will stay seven furlongs.”
