The Chazer Lights Up Killarney
There were jubilant scenes after Barry 'Bon' O’Neill, champion novice point-to-point rider from last term got The Chazer up on the line to beat favourite, Clarach by a head in the John O'Connell Memorial (Pro/Am) Flat Race.
John Paul Brennan trains the son of Witness Box for Niall Heffernan and the 25/1 chance (backed at 40s) was making his racecourse debut here after being placed second in one of his four point-to-point starts.
Heffernan, from Blackwater in Wexford, said: "Myself and John Paul used to work together in Jim Bolgers. This horse is entered in the Ascot sales in August and we think he is a serious horse. He was unlucky in his point-to-points."
